Allied Health Assistant (AHA)
Allied Health Assistant (AHA)
An AHA works under the supervision and delegation of an allied health professional to assist with therapy. At Therapy Alliance Group our AHAs are well trained and deliver direct therapy services as well as assisting with other therapy related activities such as creating customised therapy resources and materials.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can see an AHA? | A qualified Allied Health Professional considers multiple factors and makes a clinical recommendation if they determine that AHA services might be appropriate for a client. The supervising therapist also monitors progress and outcomes from AHA services and may cease them if they determine if AHA services are no longer appropriate or suitable for any reason. |
How much does an AHA cost? | It’s important to note that AHA services are actually an entirely different service to therapy with an allied health professional and isn’t just “cheap therapy”. There is a lot of work involved in setting up and maintaining a good quality AHA program and service. AHA therapy sessions are billed as a 12-week program of support that includes the face to face and non-contact work completed by both the AHA and the supervising therapist. An AHA Therapy Plan must be created and set-up prior to each AHA program of support starting. Refer to the current fee schedule for specific pricing. |
How does the AHA Therapy Plan set up work? | Before an AHA program of support can commence there is also a program set up process which normally varies from 1.5-3 hours of billed time depending on the complexity of the program and the training level required for the AHA to work with a specific client. The training process might be conducted as a joint session with the client, a telehealth consultation or a meeting just between the AHA and the supervising therapist depending on the circumstances. Your therapist will advise what will be involved based on your individual needs. This set up progress ensures that the AHA is appropriately trained to work with a specific client and help them progress with specific goals. See our current fee schedule for current AHA and therapist billing rates. |
Why are AHA sessions 60 mins long? | Clients for whom AHA services are suitable generally need lots of practice and repetition. 60min face to face sessions enable more opportunities for this practice to occur. An AHA will also need a little longer to prepare for each session because they don’t have the level of training or expertise a therapist does. That preparation time tends to be similar and needs to be spent regardless of how long the actual session time is so we use the session length we have found to be most effective and also most cost effective for this type of work with clients. One hour sessions provide better outcomes and better value for money for clients. |
Why is there a minimum of 6 sessions required? | If a program of support for AHA services is going to be less than 6 sessions we find that it’s not viable to create and prepare the program and train the AHA and we run the risk of AHA services being overall too expensive and not effective for clients. By ensuring a minimum of 6 sessions we make sure AHA services are more effective and affordable. |
